Ride For AFSCME People

Wow! It’s almost time for the first AFSCME PEOPLE Poker Run! Hop on your motorcycle and come on down to Alpha Ridge Park in Howard County, Maryland. Enjoy the open road, spend time with your AFSCME sisters and brothers, raise money for AFSCME PEOPLE—our political action fund—and maybe even win a prize. The PEOPLE Poker Run promises to be a fun way for you to show your MVP-level support of AFSCME PEOPLE, at a time when we need it most. From the recall elections of anti-worker legislators in Wisconsin to the collection of 1.3 million signatures to repeal Ohio’s SB 5, PEOPLE MVPs have been vital to AFSCME successes nationwide. When you raise or contribute the $100 entry fee, you will be a PEOPLE MVP and eligible to earn reward points for AFSCME merchandise throughpeoplerewards.afscme.org

Hurry! Register today! Download the registration form and pledge sheet or call 202-429-1179 for assistance.

General Information

Participants raise or contribute at least $100 to enter. Pledges and contributions may only be accepted from AFSCME members and members of their families. Forms are available through all Maryland Councils or through AFSCME PEOPLE online or via 1625 L Street NW, Washington, DC 20036. Participants may raise more than their registration fee from AFSCME members and family members.

Each participant will be given a map and a poker run punch card at check-in. The map will have the location of 5 poker stations. Each participant visits each station and draws a card at random. A designated council/local referee at each check point will mark the participant’s Poker Run Card. If the rider draws the same card at a different point, he/she will draw a different card. After all 5 locations are visited, the participant will turn his/her card in at the finish line. The Poker Run is not a timed contest, but all cards should be turned in by 2 p.m. Members will be able to credit their home council/local for the money raised, etc.
