Unity in Labor: Roundtable Discussion Series

Baltimore City Council President, Honorable Stephanie Rawlings-Blake & AFSCME Council 67 Present the
Unity in Labor: Roundtable Discussion Series

This series is the result of a collaborative effort to address the issues surrounding labor for Baltimore City Employees and their families. This reflective, action-based discussion series will empower appropriate leadership by giving them the tools and ammunition needed to foster the development and the enactment of labor-friendly legislation and policy over the next five years.

Roundtable discussions will be held the first Friday of the month for six months starting in August 2008. The following topics are being proposed for discussion during the Baltimore City Council President and AFSCME Council 67, Unity in Labor: Roundtable Discussion Series.

I.    Improving Labor/Management Relations: Beyond the Contract
II.    The Urgent Issue of Privatization of City Jobs!
III.    Contracts, Negotiations and the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA): Our Workers Need More…So How Do We Help?
IV.    Budgetary Constraints and Meeting the Requirements of the MOU: If We Only Had a Magic Wand!
V.    Effectively and Cooperatively Addressing Employee Grievances
VI.    Sexual Harassment Issues in the Workplace: How Do We Handle Them and Comply with the Contract?
VII.    Retired Workers: Changing Pensions, Healthcare and other Benefits

The goals of the roundtable discussion series are to:

I.    Determine a favorable strategy for addressing  City worker needs
II.    Develop measurable time lines and action-items
III.    Outline a five-year implementation plan
